Garage door repair in Hollywood and Grant Park, Northeast Portland
We fix garage doors across Grant Park and the Hollywood District, where the work splits two ways: aging wood and early steel doors on detached garages behind Grant Park houses, and the occasional shared door at a Hollywood apartment or mixed-use building.

Homes and garage doors in Hollywood District and Grant Park
The house side of the pair is Grant Park, a neighborhood of early 1900s Craftsman and Old Portland style homes where a detached garage out back may still carry an older wood or early steel door.
The Hollywood District is the commercial side of the pair, a small area that grew up around the Hollywood Theatre after it opened in 1926 and lent the neighborhood its name. The area was first called Hollyrood, after Holyrood Palace in Scotland. About three in four Hollywood households rented in 2010, and the parking there includes shared lots behind apartments and shops.
Grant Park runs the other way: roughly 87 percent of its homes were lived in by their owners in 2010, and some blocks trace back to the Rose City Park plat of 1907. Old doors there show their age in familiar ways. Cables rust at the bottom brackets, thin steel panels dent, and a door clipped by a bumper can jump its track.
What the garages here are like
Some Grant Park garages are detached buildings behind the house, fitted with a single door that may be original wood or an early steel replacement. Ask us to look at the slab and jambs too, since a door only runs as square as its frame.
An early steel door without insulation is one layer of sheet steel, so a bumper, a ball or a bike handlebar can crease a section and stiffen the hinge line above it. Wood doors of the same age fight rot along the bottom and loosen at the joints. Over in the Hollywood District, a door shared by a whole apartment building piles up cycles quickly.
Wear to watch for
Soft, rotting wood low on older Grant Park doors and on the jambs beside them
Creased panels on uninsulated steel doors that bind the hinges and strain the opener
Rust on lift cables and bottom brackets in damp, unheated detached garages
Horizontal track on older, lighter doors that kinks after a knock from a car or a bin
What we get called for in Hollywood District and Grant Park
Grant Park homeowners call about rusted cables, creased steel sections and doors knocked off track, while Hollywood property managers call about shared building doors.
Lift cables corrode first near the bottom brackets, and once strands start popping, one side eventually gives way and leaves the door tilted in its opening. New cables go on both sides, the drums get inspected for grooves worn by the old ones, and the springs are rebalanced so the bottom sits level again.
When one section of a Grant Park steel door is creased by a car or a ball, replacing just that section can save the rest, provided a matching section is still made. If it is not, we say so up front and price a new door next to the repair.
A glancing hit from a car, or a door pushed down onto a bike or a recycling bin, can pop rollers out of an older, lighter track. We secure the door, true up or replace the bent track, reset the rollers and test the travel before the opener runs again.
Where a Hollywood apartment or mixed-use building has a shared garage door, every tenant notices when it fails. We handle spring and opener repairs, resident keypad codes and scheduled service that keeps a high-cycle door running, and a picture of the door label and opener model speeds up the first visit.

We reach Hollywood and Grant Park from I-84, then use NE Sandy, NE Broadway, NE Halsey, NE 33rd, NE 42nd and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to get to the side streets.

Hollywood District and Grant Park garage door questions
Does your Northeast Portland coverage reach every Hollywood and Grant Park street?
Yes. Grant Park's house blocks and the Hollywood business district are both part of our everyday Northeast Portland coverage, so the street address matters more than the ZIP code. If you live near an edge, the closest corner on NE Sandy, Broadway or 33rd is all we need to place you on the map. The Hollywood Library and Grant High make handy reference points too.
Are the Grant Park blocks near Hollywood that sit on the old Rose City Park plat covered too?
Yes. Some Grant Park blocks trace back to the Rose City Park plat sold from 1907 on, and they fall on the same Northeast Portland routes as the rest of the neighborhood. Garages behind those Craftsman and Old Portland style houses get the same cables, rollers and track sections on board. Naming a landmark such as the Beverly Cleary sculpture garden in the park helps us find you.
Do you work with property managers on Hollywood District building doors?
Yes. Apartment and mixed-use buildings in Hollywood that share a garage door get scheduling that suits a building with tenants coming and going at all hours. We handle springs, openers, photo eyes and resident keypad codes, and we can set up regular maintenance visits for a door that runs many cycles a day. Send the door's location and a photo to start. Visits can be timed for the hours when the fewest residents need to drive out.
Can loose joints be tightened on the original wood garage door of a Grant Park or Hollywood Craftsman?
Often, when the wood around the joints is still sound. On an early 1900s detached garage in Grant Park, an old wood door loosens at the joints and softens along the bottom, so we probe the lower rails and the jambs first. Firm wood can be fastened tight again and the hardware reset, while soft wood near the bottom changes the plan, and we show you what we found before quoting.
Does a Hollywood or Grant Park repair come with a travel charge?
No travel charge comes with a repair. The posted price covers the drive into Northeast Portland, and the separate diagnostic charge on the board is only billed if you pass on the work after we find the problem. Busy parking near the Hollywood Theatre or the transit center may mean a short walk with the parts, and that walk never shows up on your bill.
Can a Hollywood garage door repair be scheduled around the Saturday farmers market?
Yes. If your block fills with market traffic on Saturdays, choose a weekday from the hours shown in the page header, or mention it while booking and we will park a street or two over and carry the parts in on foot. A snapped spring or a garage left gaping open still goes on that day's route whenever we can manage it.
A car clipped my garage door in Grant Park, near Hollywood, and pushed it off its track. What should I do until you arrive?
Leave the door where it stopped and unplug the opener, because a door half out of its track can drop or twist further if the motor runs. Grant Park sits on our regular Northeast Portland routes off I-84, and we come same day in most cases, with track sections and rollers on board. A photo of both sides of the door lets us load the right pieces before we leave.
